Mitch: a name spontaneously remembered.

How mysterious  is the working of the mind, more specifically the memory? Earlier this week I bought from a charity shop a soft toy. This is a Gorilla. It is fabulously appealing. Now here is  the thing, as I was getting out of the car,  I just said to my wife, I’ll get Mitch out. I was referring to the Gorilla. Why did I call it Mitch? At the time I just could not find an answer.

It was some time later, a day or too when the answer just came to me. As a child in the 1960’s, my sister and I shared a soft toy Monkey, whose name was Mitch. So just having a similar toy had enabled a link to be made, which triggered the recalling of this time from childhood.
